Week 3
Laced Concrete
Our goal was to create concrete that was thin enough and supported by some type of string (such as fishing line or white string). The idea was to create a soft, lace-like effect.
Our inspiration was from the image below, a project by
Doreen Westphal, but our addition to this idea was to add our image transfers onto it and create a more three-dimensional aspect to it by layering more iterations of the lace idea to create an animated effect as an observer moves around it.
Week 4
Instructions, Connections, and Movable Parts
This weeks experiment related to the idea of embedding hardware within concrete and exploring the idea of imprinting instructions onto concrete that either located these items embedded within or explained how to connect certain pieces to others. We tried to play with how we could conceal or reveal these instructions through the explorations of other materials as finishing materials. Unfortunately, the text transfer was not as obvious this time around to allow for a completed test. Hardware we experimented with include bolts, nuts, and hinges. Side note... the image below was taken after we presented the sample in which during the time we traveled from Buell to Avery, it fell on the floor.
